Stanislau Shuskevich spoke in Seoul for a gathering of Unificationists in Seoul, South Korea on June 27, 2009. He was introduced by Hyung Jin Moon. The meeting had the form of a religious service.

In 1991 he signed a declaration together with Boris Yeltsin of Russia and Leonid Kravchuk of Ukrain that the Soviet Union was dissolved.
Shuskevich withdrew from Belarus the Soviet nuclear arsenal. Later reforms he wanted to initiate became stalled by opposition of a hostile parliament.
In 1994 Shushevich won the first presidential elections held in Belarus.
In 2004 he attempted to participate in parliamentary elections but was refused registration by the electoral commission. He is now heading the Belarusian Social Democratic Assembly political party.
